I bought a GAD25 a month or so ago to replace the 10 year old Larrivee OM-9 i sold a while back.

Actually, i sold it for the because i wasnt playing it much and didnt expect to replace it any time soon, but the GAD blew me away when i picked it up in a music store.

I had considered an old D25 and played a 74 that i passed on because it sounded mediocre.

Never bought a brand new acoustic that didnt sound new and green till now.

This is the first time thats happened, and overall im honestly amazed at how this thing compares to all the others ive ownd since the early 70s.

I think this may be the best sounding acoustic ive owned, or if not i can tell it will be as it opens up.

I even played it next to some gibsons and USA guilds in the store and i honestly felt the GAD easily held its own against the better ones and sounded better than most of them Just crazy for a 600 chinese guitar, even if it IS all solid with bone.

So just looking to see if its just me or if anyone else has noticed the same.

I had a GAD-30R for quite a while and just sold it recently in a fit of cutting back on guitars and raising money.

It was a truly excellent guitar with great tone, especially when you consider what you pay for them.

Mine was the first OM sized guitar Ive owned, and I fell in love with the ease of playing and sound you can get from a smaller box, so I ended up replacing it with a used SC OMPW that I got for a very nice price.

Tonally, the SC is in a whole different universe than the GAD, but I truly believe the GADs can hold their own with guitars that cost 3x the price.

By the way, no knock on Larrivee, but Ive never found one that I liked all that much.

I owned several original USA made Guilds and they are wonderful guitars that produce wonderful sounds.

Guild guitars have been played endorsed by a wide variety of players from Johnny Cash to Slash.

Its a sad fact that the genre suffers a lot of prejudice, to some extent justified, because every guitar produced with a Guild headstock in China is one less in USA.

Had my guitar been produced in the US of A, I doubt it would have been made any better, but it would have come in at over double the price.

This would have meant that I would not have a Guild at all, Id have probably gone for a Yamaha.

Im not bothered by the fact its made in china because to be honest, love of country aside, in recent years almost everything ive come to prefer is made overseas and little of what i like is made here.

So ive long since lost any negative feelings about asian made goods, or anywhere for that matter.

As to the finish, i dont think its as thick as people think for several reasons including the fact that thick finishes dont sink into the grain to the degree that this one has.
